| The
Friends of Jacksonville's Historic Cemetery, Inc. was formed
in 2008 and is an all volunteer, 501 (c) (3) organization. Our
work began as a Committee of the Jacksonville Boosters Club
in 2002 when members were looking for a "hands on" project.
The project was so successful that the decision to form a nonprofit
was made, allowing us to increase our volunteer base, as well
as our fund-raising opportunities. The goals remain the same:
education, preservation and restoration efforts for the cemetery.
With the first official burial dating back to October 1859,
it is one of the oldest cemeteries in the state of Oregon and
contains some of the earliest pioneer gravesites in Southern
Oregon. 2009 marked our 150th year and the anniversary of Oregon
Statehood. Friends of Jacksonville's Historic Cemetery hold
fund-raising events, host monument restoration workshops, clean-up
days and offer historic tours to raise funds to support our
work and make people aware of the need to save these historic
treasures. |
