HISTORY SATURDAY - SECOND SATURDAY OF THE MONTH
Jacksonville Historic Cemetery Tour - History Saturday

History Saturday which we first offered in 2011 was so popular and successful, that we are making it available again in 2012. The first program will be offered starting on Saturday, April 14, 2012, and continuing on the Second Saturday of every month, April through September, and in November and December. There is no program scheduled in the month of October due to a conflict with our Annual Meet the Pioneers Tours. The tour will start promptly at 10:00 a.m. and take approximately 90 minutes to complete. Each month the tour will be dedicated to a different topic such as Victorian Mourning Customs, Cemetery Symbolism, styles of headstones and monuments and the materials used and where they were made. Learn the history of the cemetery with its first burials in 1859 and then visit each Section and learn about the various religious and fraternal organizations that make up the cemetery. You will also get to visit and hear the stories of many early residents of Jacksonville and the Rogue Valley who now rest within the cemetery grounds.
