The photos above were taken during Community Clean-up Days. Our Adopt-A-Block notice sign is placed in each block that has been adopted for care by volunteers. The photos below were taken during one of our monthly Marker Cleaning Workshops. This one was in the Improved Order of Red Men section of the cemetery.
It seems that no matter how much is accomplished, there is always one more project waiting, and that our to-do list gets bigger and bigger. In a cemetery of this size and age, it takes a lot of help to maintain the grounds and to continue with restoration and preservation efforts on grave markers and other cemetery ornamentation. Our volunteers are the ones making it happen, and we appreciate each and every one of them and all that they do. Volunteering with the Friends of Jacksonville's Historic Cemetery is a very rewarding experience, whether you work within the cemetery grounds or on another type of project. No matter your experience, skills, interests, or abilities, we have something for you to do. It is a great way to get to know your community and its history, have some fun, spend some quality time with old friends, and perhaps make some new ones. We hope you will consider joining us and making a difference.
OUR VOLUNTEERS - DOING WHAT THEY DO BEST
As our list of accomplishments grows, so does our to-do and wish lists, and need for volunteers. Working in the cemetery with the Friends of Jacksonville's Historic Cemetery, as a volunteer is a very rewarding and enjoyable experience. No matter what your level of experience, skills, interest, abilities, or the time that you have to donate, we have something for you to do. Being a volunteer is a great way to get to know your community and its history, have some fun, meet the people and spend some quality time with old friends. Remember, how well a cemetery is cared for, can tell you a lot about the community.
